Regular Crackers

The first 6 months of a relationship can be the most exciting, liberating, and scariest thing you’ve ever experienced. I love calling this the honeymoon phase. In this phase you learn about one another, try to please each other, and feel like you couldn’t imagine a time where you want to be apart. Every relationship you encounter; whether it be single, dating, or married, it has a honeymoon phase. What happens when that stage is over? What happens when you start to notice things that you don’t like about one another? That is when your relationship becomes a job for the both of you. You have to work on your relationship in order to keep it. The honeymoon phase can either give you such a rush from the instant gratification of feeling love that you always seek it, or it can crush your heart because you thought you were in love but their true colors finally shined through. The end of the honeymoon phase is best described by one of my favorite comedians Eddie Murphy. In one of his stand-up comedies he talks about the reaction of a starving man when you give him a cracker. The starving man is going to act like they’re the best crackers in the world. But as he continues to eat the crackers he will eventually wake up one day and realize that he’s just got some regular crackers. The moral of my story is that you don’t know if you are really happy in the relationship until you wake up and realize you just have some regular crackers.

  1. This is very true. Being in a relationship can be a full time job. That’s why they say the first year is the hardest year because the first half is amazing & you see yourself with that person for the rest of your life till time goes on & you’re brought to reality. Good post!
